How the Treatment Is Done:
A needle is inserted into the follicle the unwanted hair is growing from, a current is sent through the needle to cauterize the capillaries feeding the hair, once the capillaries are cauterized the hair slides out without resistance, indicating hair can no longer grow from that follicle. Electrolysis needles come in many sizes, the size Karyn assigns you will depend on how course the unwanted hairs are. Each stainless steel needle is covered in heat resistant coating, this coating insures that the current sent through the needle only heats the tip, concentrating the current at the base of the hair follicle where the capillaries are.
The intensity and timing of the current is adjusted according to your hair, as well as the needle used. This needle costs $10 for your first treatment, after there’s no charge. Numbing is not included but if you would like to be numbed, cream is $10 each appointment and numbing block can be scheduled with a dentist for upper or lower lip treatments.
Each hair follicle is occupied and un occupied with a hair for six months. When hair is growing from a follicle it undergoes the growth cycle. Anagen is the first stage, when hair is actively growing. Once the hair reaches full length and stops growing, the hair transitions into the catagin stage where the base starts to break down and is no longer connected to the papilla (blood source). Next is telogen, when the hair is about to naturally fall out. When the hair eventually falls out the follicle will be un occupied until it starts the growth cycle again in six months. Because of how the cycle works electrolysis is a year long process so please don’t be discouraged by new hair growth after a few treatments. Each time new hair grows it needs to be treated, if they are not treated before they complete the growth cycle you will have to wait for those hairs to grow in again to permanently remove them.
What is Electrolysis?
Fun Fact Electrolysis was invented in 1875 by Dr Charles E. Michel to permanently remove an ingrown eyelash. When Electrolysis was first invented the machine sent a direct current through the needle, this process required the client to hold a metal rod attached to a wet sponge to ground them while the treatment was performed. A Similar method is still used today called the blend, which as the name implies, is a mix of two different currents, a direct current and a wave current. The blend method still requires clients to hold the sponge rod because of the direct current, also the current has to be administered for at least 2 to 5 seconds per hair. Thermolysis is a less antiquated type of Electrolysis that eliminates the use of the sponge rod by use of a wave current instead of a direct current. Since the current used is a wave type, it can be administered for a shorter duration of time, making it the fastest least painful method. Thermolysis is the method of electrolysis Karyn prefers and has performed for over thirty years.
